Yellow

Think of something yellow.

The sun?
A fat ripe pear
or buttercup petals?

Yellow is butter
Yellow is butter.
Yellow is custard.
Yellow is egg-yolks.

Yellow has all the answers.
Yellow is like
an advert that twists your eyes
till they light on yellow.

What is yellow?
Nobody answered.
Shakeela smiled
and stroked her yellow
shalwar khameez
so butterly
and buttercuply
that all our fingers turned yellow.
